Cafe Fiore Gets Liquor Permit at 420 East Main

Cafe Fiore at 420 East Main St., Suite 20 received a new state restaurant liquor permit effective July 20, with Rusit Cecunjanin as permittee. The fresh credential number (LIR.0019359) — rather than a renewal — typically signals a new opening or ownership change at the East Main storefront.

Storms Flood Roads, Erode Shoreline Beaches

Severe storms battered the Connecticut shoreline this week, flooding roads and chewing up beaches from Branford west to Stamford. Southwestern Connecticut took the worst of it, but Branford sits on the eastern edge of the damage zone — expect beach erosion and debris in low-lying areas as cleanup begins.

Storm Knocks Out Power to 582 Homes, Floods Roads

Tuesday's heavy rain left 582 Branford customers without power — the state's third-highest outage count, behind only Greenwich (685) and ahead of Westport (454) — while flooding closed roads across the shoreline.

Branford Man, 35, Killed in West Haven Stabbing; Suspect Charged

A 35-year-old Branford man was fatally stabbed Sunday night at a West Haven apartment. West Haven police have arrested a suspect and charged him with murder. The victim's name has not been released.

Building Permits Go Online with New OpenGov Portal

Branford's Building Department has launched OpenGov, a new online portal that lets residents and contractors apply and pay for permits, track status in real time, and read review comments and inspection findings — covering Building, Engineering, Planning, and Conservation & Development (including Inland Wetlands and Zoning). A public parcel-records search across all land-use departments comes with it.

Pine Orchard's Gilded Age Summers by the Sound — c. 1880s–1910s

By the 1880s, Pine Orchard had transformed from quiet shoreline farmland into one of Connecticut's fashionable summer colonies. Trains on the Shore Line Railway, and later the New Haven–Branford trolley, delivered New Haven and New York families to a season of sea breezes, shingle-style cottages, sailing on Long Island Sound, and long verandas facing the water.
