Policy Committee Meets Tonight at Walsh Intermediate

Branford's Board of Education Policy Committee convenes tonight, Tuesday, June 3, from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the CIC, Room 112, at Walsh Intermediate School. It's a short session, but Policy Committee meetings are where the language that governs day-to-day school operations — everything from attendance to technology use — gets drafted and refined before heading to the full board.

The meeting follows a busy May on the district calendar, which included a full regular BOE meeting on May 27 and a cluster of committee meetings (Teaching & Learning, Personnel & Finance, Policy, and Communication) held at Walsh earlier in the month. Parents and residents who want to follow along but can't attend in person can find recordings of past BOE meetings, along with agendas and supporting documents, on the district's website.

A few other items worth noting from branfordschools.org: the district is promoting its Elementary Enrichment Lab Program and summer camp offerings, and the Free & Reduced Lunch application remains available online for families who qualify. Wednesday Night: Mostly Clear, Low Near 63°F

Branford should see a pleasant close to Wednesday, with the National Weather Service calling for mostly clear skies overnight and a low near 63°F. A light south wind of 5 to 10 mph will keep things comfortable along the shoreline.

It's good weather for an evening walk on the Green or a quiet night on the porch — no rain expected, and mild enough to skip the jacket.

Notable Upcoming Weather Facts

  • Temperatures gradually warm, with summer like temperatures Friday into Saturday. Overall, humidity levels should remain tolerable.
  • Unsettled conditions arrive Saturday evening / night, and likely lingering into Sunday.
  • Mainly dry conditions early next week with temperatures gradually warming through Wednesday.

Expect a warming trend through the end of the week. Highs will climb from the low 80s today into the upper 80s and low 90s by Friday and Saturday, with coastal areas staying cooler in the 80s due to sea breezes. Humidity stays comfortable throughout, so it won't feel oppressively hot. Nights will be mild and pleasant as temperatures stay elevated.

Saturday looks dry during the day, but showers and a few thunderstorms will move in Saturday evening and overnight, with the best chances west of Branford. Sunday will be unsettled with on-and-off showers and thunderstorms as a cold front passes through. Conditions dry out Sunday night into early next week, setting up another warming stretch into Tuesday and Wednesday.

Marine & Cold-Water Safety

This week's water conditions stay calm for most of Branford, with just a couple of rougher patches. Late today and Saturday, the ocean beyond the immediate shoreline could get choppy with wind gusts around 25 knots and waves building to about 5 feet — not ideal if you're heading out on a boat. By Sunday a cold front moves through and things settle down again. Winds shift to the northeast and then east early in the week, potentially kicking up slightly rough conditions again on Monday, particularly farther offshore. By Tuesday high pressure settles in and conditions return to normal.

If you're planning a beach day, rip currents stay weak through Thursday, but late Thursday and especially Friday look like the days they could strengthen as southern swells build. That's when you'll want to pay closer attention if you're swimming in the ocean.
