Lomonaco's Headed to 990 West Main

A new state liquor permit points to Lomonaco's opening at 990 West Main Street. The restaurant permit issued to Loma Inc. (LIR.0016628) takes effect August 22, 2026 — and because Connecticut issues fresh permit numbers for new businesses or ownership changes rather than renewals, it's a strong signal something new is coming to that West Main stretch.

Local Athletes Named to 2026 All-Shoreline Spring Teams

Branford and North Branford student-athletes earned spots on the 2026 All-Shoreline Conference Spring Sports Teams, the league's annual honors recognizing top performers across the region.

Q4 Honor Roll Out; PTA Board Seats Open for Next Year

Branford Public Schools posted the Quarter 4 honor roll on July 6, closing out the 2025–2026 year, and the PTA is recruiting parents to fill open board seats for the fall. Both notices are up at branfordschools.org.

This Week in Branford History

The Malleable Iron Fittings Company: A Century of Branford Industry — Founded 1854

Founded in 1854, the Malleable Iron Fittings Company — known locally as M.I.F. — grew from a modest foundry into one of the nation's leading producers of malleable iron pipe fittings. For well over a century it was Branford's largest employer, drawing generations of workers (many of them immigrants from Italy, Ireland, and Eastern Europe) to homes clustered near the works off Main Street. The plant finally closed in the mid-1980s, but its brick buildings, worker neighborhoods, and family names remain woven into the fabric of the town.
